A sustainable and low-consumption website

"Digital technology takes up a considerable share of energy consumption, and that's not just a matter of image! With a view to reducing the energy consumption linked to storing our web pages on servers and the viewing of those web pages by users, we have adopted an approach that aims to minimize the size of the data they contain. Consequently, the photos presented on our website are all processed with a reduced number of pixels and the videos are selected according to a limited usage target. We have opted for simple and streamlined designs. In addition, in the development and coding of this website, we have opted to limit the flow of data between the website and the servers that host it. Lastly, the user paths have been optimized, the content such as news and press releases appear for a duration limited to: 6 months."

A more eco-responsible website.

  • Limiting content that causes high energy consumption: We have limited the number of multimedia files (images, videos, PDF) on each page and specifically compressed each image to a reduced number of pixels.
  • Optimization of the web page loading time: By reducing the data volume of the web pages and optimizing the code, we have been able to reduce the number of requests sent to the servers, and consequently the loading time.
  • A website that consumes less energy: We have developed the website in such a way as to optimize its efficiency and limit the load on the servers, thereby contributing to the reduction of energy consumption.
  • A controlled running speed: We have reduced the number of pages on our website with simplified pathways for users.
  • Non-autoplay videos: We have prohibited the autoplay of video content. Video content is only played by users who wish to view it, in order to limit energy consumption.

Comment ça marche ?

The Greenoco score measures the environmental performance of websites and assigns a rating from A (good performance, representing the top 15% most sustainable) to G (poor performance, representing the bottom 15%).

The score is calculated based on several criteria.

  • Data transferred weight and bandwidth usage (in KB)
  • Number of HTTPS requests
  • Annual audience of each page
  • PUE of the website’s hosting provider
  • Data center country and the carbon intensity of its energy mix.
